Expanding Options (ExpO) is based in New Castle, Delaware and expanded to Kent County, Delaware in 2020.
As caregivers, we felt there was a void in our neurodiverse adults' (18+) lives. Seeking to bring about social connections for that community and their caregivers, we began monthly meetings that are informational regarding what is happening in and available to our specific community. These meetings also provide a chance for social interaction, celebrating monthly birthdays, and information gathering and giving for future events.
ExpO New Castle and Kent meet regularly for bowling, but participate in many other activities. Past events have included disc golfing, beach clean-up, Sojourner's Place brunch cook, car washes, trips to DC and the Franklin Institute, and a variety of Zoom meetings and activities.
It is our goal to involve our neurodiverse adults (Peers) with low-support needs in spectrum friendly activities that promote social interaction but also bring positive input into their lives and those who care for them.
Expanding Options is a Delaware 501c3 non-profit serving the needs of adults 18 and older to improve their quality of life and expand options for them and their families.
ExpO is a nonprofit caregiver-led group, where Peers (neurodiverse adults ages 18+ with low-support needs) and their caregivers can socialize and work together to enhance their quality of life as well as job and housing options in Delaware.
Expanding Options works to grow a social network for Peers through various opportunities to interact with different spectrum-friendly activities and monthly meetings.
ExpO also helps the Peers and their families become aware of disability issues within the community and to help foster advocacy.
